You can also make a small one burner forge out of a coffee can and kaowool coated with refractory/fireplace cement. Very simple. Do a google search and you will find tons of different options. Another thing to do when your heat treating in the beginning is normalize a few times. Bring to non-mag, let air cool to black, repeat 2 more times and then quench. That was how I was taught. With that freebie hardness tester, you are off to a great start! Just practice and keep showing them pics and WIPS! Great stuff here, TWSS!!!
If you need a piece or two of high carbon steel to play with let me know. I should be getting a shipment of D2 and A2 in soon as well.
