I personally would NOT get a 100ATR or 4x4 until Mossberg has recalled them and fixed this problem. If there *IS* a problem at all, that is. Sure sounds/looks like there is.

If some of these allegations are true, then you are literally taking your life in your hands just shooting one of these. A bolt entering into your brainstem through your cheek and mouth would not make for much fun.

If you have already bought one, or know someone who has, you'd really oughtta ring the alarm bells and warn them not to shoot it until extensive investigation has occurred.

Caliber, schmaliber.

Dr. THW,

Very interesting reading. It definitely makes me reconsider my opinion of the ATR and whether I will use it this year. I was not able to find anything recent on the status of the lawsuit or additional incidents. If you know or find out anything more about this please let me (and everyone else) know. Thanks.

Lemme add: If you're going budget and new, for a turnbolt, and don't mind a plastic stock, I'd go with the Marlin XL-7; great rifle by all accounts. Stevens 200 close 2nd place.

I've got an XL7, and it's a great rifle for it's purpose. Is it going to win any beauty contests or have a gazillion aftermarket parts? No.

But it's a quality rifle that will kill game, and at $300 out the door, I don't mind dragging it through the woods.

I bought a 300wsm about four years ago and have recently decided I wanted a smaller lighter gun to carry in the field. Any suggestions? My longest shots are about 100 yards and the majority of my hunting is in pretty thick cover.

Well, I finally had a chance to go out this weekend and shoot the new gun. Obviously since you are reading this post, nothing happened while shooting it. This is the best gun I have ever shot. Bolt is smooth, trigger is just right and the scope is crisp and clear. Took 6 shots to zero the scope in (resting on the tool box of my truck). Zeroed in at 100 yards and was keeping groups out of this world. The gun is lightweight and really fun to shoot. My wife even liked it. Don't see any flaws in the way it is made. The bolt action is good and tight and I have no worries on anything going wrong. I strongly recommend this to anyone wanting an inexpensive gun that shoots really well.:clap3:
