Plant ID help

So I've seen this thing around before and always wondered.
I was driving around the Wildlife Refuge today and saw a bunch of these out there.
Was wondering...what are they?

Its called Wester Horse Nettle. I'll give you a link shortly as I have that plant ID app on my phone. Currently on the laptop.

Thanks!! I've seen early spring version of this plant with the small purple flowers, now I know what it ends up like!!

Glad I didn't pick any for my salad!!!
