Pretty sure those 'statistics' are weighted to begin with.
On campus, was with a group once and the girl conducting the poll only asked people who obviously dressed like hippies. Ignored the plain dressed folks and those in business suits. I had a Marine cap that I had just received on at the time and asked her if she wanted to ask me the same question. To which she said no. Totally valid poll results, right?

So they've been pushing this (erroneous) stat that one in four college women will be a victim of rape or sexual assault, which is a much higher rate than the rest of society, but they don't want students to exercise their God given rights because colleges are "one of the safest places for college age students." It is a conflicting narrative, you can't have your cake and eat it too.

I work at TU and can tell you crime is quite a bit lower than the surrounding area. TU is also a private university and any laws made for campus carry would probably not make it to TU. Based on age, citizenship, % of people in the state that have permits and % of people that actually carry on a daily basis, the number of students eligible to carry, the number that actually carry would be relatively small. I generally agree with carry on campus. I would like to see at least at each university level a requirement for safety class or evaluation to include a demonstration of proficiency loading and unloading the firearm. Also we do currently have a place for students to store weapons and with very few exceptions they are available to check out 24/7. We also offer security escorts 24/7 to any student who calls and asks.

If you look at the crimes map from the Tulsa Police Department http://maps.cityoftulsa.org/Crimes/ and look at crimes for 2012-2014 you will see how few crimes actually happen inside the borders of the campus. The campus is south of 3rd st until 11th st. West of Harvard until just the west side of Delaware. Crime is exponentially lower inside the borders than just outside.

The one in four college women stat is very misleading. Most sexual assaults that occur on college campuses involve drinking and the revoking of consent. Meaning you have people who were drunk woke up in the morning after being assaulted or were decided to stop the guy once he "got past third and was on the way home". Both of those types of assaults gun would have not made much of a difference. There are violent abductions and rapes which are much more rare on campuses.

I do agree that it is a conflicting narrative and that that one in four college women stat is misleading. I just wanted to expand a bit more.
