Woah, hey for all we know it was a couple rounds of .22 left over from a range trip in the kid's jacket.
Maybe the OP has taught the kid the appropriate weapon handling rules.
No need to start name-calling.
On a related note, no need to teacher/school-bash either.
As noted earlier, most of us aren't lawyers, but I'd guess they can talk to your kid all they want as long as he isn't being charged with a crime.

Doesn't matter if it was .22LR or 30-30 or 50bmg. ELEMENTARY age kid, which is age 6-11.... plain and simple. Poor parenting. I could care less if the kid knows how to shoot or handle a weapon better than me. End of the day the parent is a moron.

Just goes to show modern parenting at it's finest. This is a plain example of what is FAILING as a country. People can't take responsibility for their actions, or lack of actions, even IF it was an accident. Their first thought is "is this legal" never mind the fact that THEY screwed up in the first place.

Kind of falls back on the idea of "Don't want to get shot by a cop"? Don't put yourself in the position of begin with you jackasses. There are just levels of stupid that are really hard to fathom exist.

Then the really sad part is IF the op really wanted to find a lawyer and press the issue, someone out there will try and find a way to make a paycheck out of it, and some dumb judge will allow it.

While that's a pretty harsh way of saying it, I agree.

Yeah, I won't disagree it's harsh. Responsible gun ownership should be taught by a kids parents. This scenario is a fail in more than one way. We as the responsible gun owning community should hold each other to a higher standard, and straight out call each other out, because it is stupid **** like this stuff that gives the anti's more and more ammo (pun intended)

To the op: I'm not sorry for being harsh on you, don't take it the wrong way. Immediately wondering about the legality of a situation like this instead of worry about the real issue is what riled me up. Sorry if your butt is hurt, there are tampons on isle 4. - Welcome to the forum btw.

The real question is how did the kid get caught? Did he go around showing the ammo to other kids? If so, that would be another issue that would need to be addressed.

So do two wrongs make it all right?
I'm not sure I understand your position excat.
You aren't offering anything to the thread except to demean the OP.
What if he gave the kid the ammo for show-and-tell?
What if it was inert?
I'm not saying it is okay or appropriate.
Maybe what you're saying is let's focus on preventing this sort of situation from occurring?
What if the kid had some other form of contraband?
"Little Timmy, you shouldn't have this naughty magazine, where did you get it?"
"Does you daddy have lots of these kinds of magazines?"
"Does he have pictures of naked kids?"
See how this could theoretically become a slippery slope and a potentially illegal interrogation?
I find his question valid and am interested in an educated response.

There are better, more gentlemanly ways to express your opinions without becoming a douche bag and acting like a bully in the process. Sorry if your butt is hurt, but kids make stupid decisions all the time, regardless of teaching and training - that's why they're called kids.

While I don't disagree with the questions you're asking, I DO disagree with how you've treated a newcomer to the site. Without knowing ALL of the circumstances surrounding the incident, you sure seem to want to reign down your own flavor of judgement and asshattery on some dude asking a question about an elementary school violating his and his kids rights - regardless of the circumstances the school had no right to ask about gun safes in the home.

I think you're a grown up, in which case you should be able to articulate your message without being a dirt bag. . . you should try it. Sorry if your butt is hurt.

I don't mind direct confrontation, it gets to the important questions real quick. Name calling could have been avoided, but maybe excat was having a bad day, maybe he was hungry, maybe just a mean guy.

These things aren't nearly as interesting as hearing from the OP again.
He just dropped a bomb and walked away.

Based on the responses from excat, I would be surprised if he came back at all. I wouldn't. Combine that with the ridiculous comment by podman denigrating teachers and this forum probably doesn't look too friendly to a newcomer.

I agree. Guy seems a little childish. Thought it was a little odd that the OP was bashed for asking the legality of his child being questioned by a stupid resource officer because his son took a few rounds to school. Screw the fact this idiot resource officer lied to the boy and asked questions that wasn't any of his damned business.

OP... PM me the school info as well as the resource officer's name and I will call this idiot and ask him how many soldiers died in Iraq or Afghanistan because their ammo overheated in their mags.

I guess the excat_56 would justify the kid who was expelled for making a finger gun as well.. Must be poor parenting because any good parent wouldn't allow their child to make a finger gun.

My grandson is 8 years old. He has a .22, .410, and a .243. Between his dad (stepfather, dad is a POS) and I, we have taught him about gun safety. We have let him shoot his weapons, an AR15, and a few smaller pistols. For christmas, I got him a Remington 700 .243, as his santa gift. He was funny because he said "I cannot tell my teacher about the new rifle."
We have no worries about him playing with any of our guns, or knowing that he will get in trouble at school for even talking about guns. However, I cannot keep him from sneaking his tablet to school. He does not see the tablet as wrong, no matter what we say. His teacher has an ipad, which makes him think his tablet is fine. We failed to makes his table an import rule for shcool.
Therefore, I would say the OP failed to make the ammo as important as the gun, when teaching gun safety.
To Podman: I am an AP History/Economics teacher, my wife is a History teacher, my daughter teaches speech and debate, and sister teaches 3rd grade. I am retired from the Army, my wife was a business manager, my daughter worked at a bank, and my sister owned her own distributing business and was a floor manager at a casino before she started teaching. Therefore, all of us could find other jobs, we chose teaching as a profession because we think the future of our nation is important. By the way, all of us have CCW permits and are not liberals.

Oh man, boy am I ever hungry. This new diet is killing me making me a grumpy ass! From the people I know on this forum and have met in person, they can attest I'm a pretty mean guy :chop: (lol) ...especially when I'm hungry.

If someone can't take being called a moron...well, sorry your little feelings got hurt! Calling someone a moron is pretty small compared to some of the other things said on this forum.
