without a doubt...a good folder stock semi auto AKM with drum mags and a strong sling.
cheap easy to find parts/mags/ammo anywhere in the world. reliable as possible, simple design, and packs a punch. also shoots out to a reasonable distance if you do your part.

10/22 without a doubt.

Only one gun?! For defense and hunting and whatever? If not my Mini-30 then a .22LR rifle. A 10/22 or a good .22 bolt action would bring home game for a lifetime.

Probably an 870 12ga. as well. It was close between that and a 10/22

Ar in 5.56 with the .22 conversion, will take anything from rabbits and squirrels without bruising too much meat in the .22 and any whitetail you could find in Oklahoma with the 5.56/.223, and zombies too, with either caliber methinks...
