Very nice!
Yep. Going exploring today. More stars tonight. The air here is so clear. Very little ambient light at night, plus we are at about 9,000 ft. Makes for a pretty good show.

Anyway, we were at the observatory at our very own private Star Party until about 1:00 with one of the trained guys on the super telescope they have. We saw a beautiful night sky then looked at a binary star in the handle of the Big Dipper, a cluster galaxy, the Whirlpool Galaxy, Antares, Vega, Jupiter (you could see the bands of gas even) and several others. It was very cool. Now off in search of morning chow.

Our astronomy guy at the observatory told us that the two binary in the BD handle were named by ancient Arabs who used it as a test of eyesight. Whatever, it is pretty cool. One of the galaxies we looked at is estimated to have over 500,000 stars, but I didn’t count them so I can’t really say.

We went to Westcliffe in March. Piedmont to Westcliffe in just over 8 hours driving. "Spice and Sugar" bakery was really really good. We also ate at Chappy's. It was decent. The menu was a little limited because the fryer was down. My son said it's always down. My son says there are one or two good places to eat in the sister town as well (Silver Cliff).
Be spending two weeks in Pagosa springs this summer at river side RV resort.Pagosa Springs is a vacation in itself. We stayed at an RV park northwest of Pagosa Springs in 2009 for two weeks and did day trips all over that part of Colorado, including a day at Mesa Verde and another day for the Durango/Silverton Railroad.
