I just use a lot of gun oil, never had rust.

Wiping down with an oily rag (of most any type) will do the trick. All you need is a thin film to keep air away from the surface, which prevents oxidation. Just don't handle the metal with bare hands afterward.

WD-40 also works, but it can get sticky over time.

Thompson center bore butter works well to. It not only good for black powder but any firearm. Doesn't evaporate like alot of petroleum products .

I have no personal experience with it but I've read some collectors use Renaissance Wax.

I'm just saying all the stuff my grandpa just sold had been in a safe for about 20 years untouched...RemOil and a golden rod are your friend. Zero rust...just make sure they have a good coat and keep the moisture out.
