It seems like the string or floss trick is most successful. I wonder if you kept it wrapped for 10 or 20 minutes, if the compression from the wrap might shrink the finger a bit.

If you resort to cutting, slower is better, and you could run you finger in a stream of water while cutting.
Water and electricity sounds like fun!!

My fat finger is causing me some pain. I've tried liquid soap, soaking hand in iced water and using dental floss. If I had a Dremel I'm sure I could cut it off. Mind you, I've been wanting to do this the past year, but have been putting it off.
When I was at the sheriff's office, what we would do is push the ring back as far as you can.Take thread and wrap it around your finger as tight as you can get it and then slip the ring off
