I have no issue with buying as much ammo as you can lay hands on, if it's something you need.

Example 1 - guy has 5000 rounds of various .223 ammo stocked up, sees .223 ammo on sale and buys as much as they will let him buy. <- I've got no issue with this.

Example 2 - guy sees .357, .40, and 9mm ammo for sale, buys up as much as store will sell him, and continues to go back and buy more until supplies are exhausted. Guy doesn't own a firearm that shoots any of that ammo. <- I've got a problem with this, because even though you can do something, doesn't mean you should, and if some people think you're a dick because you did, then everyone is welcome to their opinion. Does the Dixie Chicks come to mind? There was no law that said they couldn't say what they said, they were free to say it, but because you are free to do something, doesn't mean you are free from suffering the consequences of your actions. If you're buying up stuff you need, tally ho, I'm all in. If you're buying to flip, or otherwise profiteer off of your fellow shooters, you're hurting the gun community, and that means you're hurting yourself.

If people would just stop buying **** they don't need, this would fix itself in about 6 weeks, and nobody would have anything to ***** about at all.

You flippers and profiteers feel free to flame away.

Grasshoppers and ants. If you insist on being a grasshopper, don't interrupt the ant's dinner when the snow's blowing. It's annoying.

I remember that fable. Its a great lesson for those with a concious. They need to make an updated version where the grasshopper chides the ants as foolish for working, not because theyre missing the beautiful day by preparing but due to the insect government taking from the ants and then giving their harvest to the grasshopper.

Here's the cartoon:

Lumping thieves and hoarders in the same group is like lumping entitlement/welfare/hand out people and those who didn't stock up/shot up/can't purchase more ammo.

For the record: I haven't been selling my ammo. I have given a few boxes away in special circumstances.

Seems to me a lot of people are equating hoarders to preppers. I'd say most here who have plenty of guns and ammo are more like preppers and/or collectors than hoarders. And I don't think the ammo problem has to do with preppers or hoarders as much as panic buyers and flippers. If people would quit panic buying the flippers couldn't make any money and the supply and prices would return to normal.

"Gollum was torn between his lust for ammo- and his desire to be free of it". "My precious...". We see Gollum playing with his ammo stack every night, then the next day he goes out and shoots some of it because he feels guilty for hoarding it and denying other people of it. Later he feels sad because his precious pile has now diminished some, so he has to go out the next day and hit every joint in his area that has it just to build his pile back up. Its a vicious cycle for poor Gollum...

I think we need government intervention to ensure not only equal opportunity of ammo purchases, but equal outcome. From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.

Someone who NEEDS it more than me should be allowed to the front of the line...maybe we can put government inspectors in place at all Academy's and Wal-Marts to make sure the ammunition-disadvantaged aren't disenfranchised.

Since I usually only practice shooting what I carry, and even though I own other firearms in other calibre I carry my fave 9mm's, and since 9mm isnt totally effective stopping power vs higher calibre, according to the experts- then I need a lot of 9mm ammo on hand. Plus even though Ive been shooting since I was a kid, Im not the best shot, so I have to go out more than some other people to practice.
