1. outdoor lights with motion sensors. nothing a thief hates more than lights coming on and drawing attention plus you want lots of light, not walking in the dark.
2. the old works boots is also a good idea, size 13+ even better.
3. a very bright flashlight, Wally-world has a 3000 lumens hand held light for $35.
4. a good quality (S&W, Ruger, etc) .38 or .357 revolver. just a minimal amount of training needed and some practice.
5. BEAR SPRAY, not wasp spray. a SUPERSOAKER loaded with bleach would be better.

very strong believer in the blinding flashlight and laser. blinded by light and then a red dot appears on chest, can't see who is behind the trigger and don't care; it is time to vacate and look for easier targets.

heres the deal. You dont need to have years of experience to effectively use a firearm against an enemy.

I have seen people, specifically women who had no desire to handle a gun, in fact were scared to death of them get through the first stage in a week.

Totally agreed. A week is even being generous. I think you will be amazed at how quickly you can start getting good hits and feeling comfortable with a handgun even on the first range trip, if you have a competent instructor showing you the ropes, and helping you pick out a gun that fits you and that you can easily handle. I bet one good solid day at the range will at least give you the confidence that you could hunker down in your bedroom in the event of a break-in, and have the skills to put rounds on anybody coming through your doorway. It really doesn't take a lot of shooting skills to get to that level, and that is enough to get you through almost any home invasion alive.

You will definitely want more training than one day at the range... especially if you ever want to carry outside the home... but you have to start somewhere. A gun and little skill will get you a lot farther than a hand to hand weapon and little skill, or little skill alone. :)

Go take a class, or work with somebody here. Do this now.

My wife LOVES our (her) 18 1/2" 12 gauge. She has shot it, doesn't care for the recoil, but knows how, and that she can.

Before I fell to the Darkside and married into the NWO, I had a baseball bat. I know at least one fella who will NEVER look at a strange woman in her bedroom the same way ever again ... :naughty: He's lucky I wasn't as angry as I am now ... Back then I was young and still thought people were salvagable ... I only broke his arm and probaby bruised some kidneys up pretty good ... Now ... Now, I'm afraid they'd have to scrap him up outta the hallway with a pooper scooper ... :D

Wow, I want a baseball bat like yours! I hope to never need it, but lately my side fence was opened by someone and then I went to pull the recycle bin down and someone took all the cans...it is up by my house. If someone needs the cans I would gladly give them up, but pilfering in my trash bothers me.

As I get older I am learning to control myself, but if someone comes to harm me or my baby it would be the death of one of us. I am a good kick boxer and take a class on Sundays learning Jiu Jitsu, but I wouldn't save a life!

heres the deal. You dont need to have years of experience to effectively use a firearm against an enemy.

Start now, begin a stair step approach to training beginning with the safe operation of a gun and a familiarization program with various types taught by some one with patience and experience. You will find with the right instructor you will progress rapidly from the duh stage to the "i am comfortable" stage. Much quicker than you think.
After you get there seek continuing training and regular practice to build on the foundation.
I have seen people, specifically women who had no desire to handle a gun, in fact were scared to death of them get through the first stage in a week.

I am sure you know several people who would be happy to help out.

Yes, I will work on this over the weekend. I have some new information and everyone is very informative.

I have motion lights and I need to get the alarm turned on. It beeps anytime a window or door is opened, but if I am not home I don't hear it. So actually arming it would be smart. I don't want to be stabbed, so knives are scary.

I see you're in Edmond. Since it's not too far call Will Andrews at H&H range and explain your situation. Then go take a private class with him, his rates are very reasonable. He gives great training and he'll get you started off right with a weapon that works for you instead of the latest tacticool mega blaster.
