The warrant, issued May 8, authorized Killeen police to search the apartment and two vehicles of 49-year-old Marvin Louis Guy.

The warrant, drafted by the Bell County Organized Crime Unit, stated that investigators believed Guy was dealing cocaine. The warrant indicated police expected to find cocaine, money and possibly weapons in the apartment or in Guy’s vehicles.

Members of KPD’s SWAT team were attempting to execute that warrant when the fatal shooting occurred.

The officers were breaching an apartment window when Guy opened fire on them, according to an arrest affidavit. When the gunfire stopped, one officer, Odis Denton, was shot in the leg and a second, Detective Charles Dinwiddie, was critically wounded. Dinwiddie died Sunday.

Killeen Municipal Judge Mark Kimball signed the warrant, and also authorized police to conduct a “no knock” entry.

So-called “no knock” authorization exempts law enforcement from identifying themselves and announcing their purpose before using force to enter a dwelling with a search warrant.

“No knock” warrants are necessary, according to some law enforcement agencies, because criminals will start destroying the evidence as soon as police identify themselves.

This will be interesting to watch, the identical thing occurred in Texas a few months ago. http://www.guns.com/2014/02/08/texas-man-cleared-killing-detective-delivered-knock-warrant/

So you have no way of knowing who's breaking your door down and can't protect yourself inside your own home.
Is it going to matter in if he was guilty of drug charges or not? Whats your thoughts?

Someone breaks my door in, I probably am not waiting to shoot.

I HATE no-knock warrants. There has GOT to be a better way ...

I, like many others here, have children to protect and thus I don't have time to f*ck around. So if I'm not expecting you, and you're coming in my home by force, I'm shooting. Police may not need to knock but they should absolutely identify themselves and announce that they have a warrant.

Seriously, if he was the fawkin Don Corleone of cocaine, then I might see it. Timmy the street dealer could be picked up outside his freakin' apartment by Joe Friday. How many people have to die, on either side of the badge, before we decide that violating someone's 4th amendment rights for 3 oz. of coke isn't worth it?

In the other story I linked to, they found a small amount of weed. The deputy who was shot was the one who requested the no knock. The guy who shot the deputy had a felony charge of DUI, but in Texas felons can own a weapon after five years of good behavior, I think.

Home invasion by the police is still a home invasion. No mercy for the offending invaders. If you don't ID yourself as a cop, you risk getting shot. Hell, you risk getting shot anyway.
