Be very, very quiet...a new conspiracy so vast is afoot. Do not go to Walmart--ever! They are detention centers in disguise. Also, if you could pick one up and look under it, as you would a shoebox, say, you will find a couple of thousand Chi-Com troops hiding in the caverns below each Walmart store. Didn't know about the caverns, did ya? Nor, I suspect, about the "fire lanes" that are actually landing sites for the black helicopters. There's so much more to tell....

Well, then, tell us more! This is getting interesting!

Wife is in some college classes with a couple of people who have friends that work(ed) there. They said there were quite a few employees that would notify their friends when they'd get trucks of "good stuff" (electronics, etc.), and they would let them help themselves. Apparently there were quite a few of them, and the losses were pretty bad. They said that's the reason for the closing: rather than try and weed out who all was involved, go through the HR nightmare, and possibly face suits from those who'll cry some kind of "ism", they'll just close the store temporarily and make the employees re-apply for their jobs, and just not hire them back. Done and done. Makes sense to me.

They can't just fire them without some just cause. The unemployment 'insurance' they will have to pay for a store full of employees would max out their rate.

Besides, it was stated that the problem was theft. Employee pilfering is cause enough to fire them without running the risk of an increase in unemployment insurance. Someone fired for a just cause cannot collect unemployment compensation. So, we're back to shoplifting and loss prevention officers. Also note that a certain amount of loss due to theft is built into the price of everything that is sold in stores like that. I just don't buy theft as a reason to close those stores.

If those stores weren't doing enough business, that is a legitimate reason to close and would be so stated.

That's why I said they closed the store, and reported that they were going to make them reapply for their jobs if they want them, and when they reopen. Saves them the agony of all of the BS, and gives their store an enema in one swoop.

The lost prevention guys are a complete joke. My mom had a run in with one and they detained her for almost 2 hours because they thought she stole a necklace she was wearing (the necklace I question was a gift from overseas and it had a poem or something engraved in a different language on it, not something Walmart would carry).

Could be a combination of factors ... theft, plumbing and/or poor sales performance. If a Walmart store has consistent same store sales decline of 3% per year (v. YAG) they will shutter the store.

That does not relieve them of the unemployment compensation requirements.

Every employee is getting two months paid leave and the opportunity to find work in other nearby stores...so essentially the "they fired us with no notice" isn't really moot.
