I still see that the love/hate feelings toward the NRA exist on this forum. Hey I get it. But others on this thread are correct, opt out of things you don't like...NRA or otherwise. Folks can only take advantage of you with your permission. It is sad that some that been abused on the phone by an NRA solicitor. That's simply not acceptable. It is my understanding that the soliciting is not actually done by the NRA's folks but by a solicitation agency taking a percentage of what is received in donations. Thus the NRA does not directly pay these folks. Not sure of this facts truth but just passing it along. I still maintain that regardless of the negative affects of being a member the push for your gun rights that the NRA has is worth a bit of BS. A few million folks as members of the NRA is a big stick to hit Liberals over the head at the voting polls.

Yep what you say is true, outside group does the calling mostly, get ahold of somebody at the NRA and you can get the phone calls stopped. I had to when I went to endowment and then patron, they thought I was money bags or something. Told them 1 more call and no more money. Yes I still get the mail and that is ok, I can read it or toss.

That's correct. A third party contracts with the NRA to do the phone soliciting.

I too have been a member of the NRA as long as I can remember and intend to continue to support them. My gripe is all the junk goodies they try to tantalize us with made in China! I have gone through all the channels that I know of to get them to buy American with no results. I would be much more likely to bite on their offers if they would give me a nice "made in the USA" prize even if it cost more.

THIS ^^^^^^^^^, of course, the military does the same thing in many cases (at least at Ft Sill), prizes and awards - all made in China.

I was a member when I was in a gun club (required). I called NRA and told them not to call me or send crap in the mail. Only exception was their magazine which I enjoyed.

On a different topic, AARP was a real pain in the ass to stop. They sent me crap every few weeks for years. I will never give AARP a dime.
I think I read somewhere that AARP is anti gun. I may have heard it from Tom Gresham's Guntalk.

I'm a yearly member and the NRA does good things. I'm also a member of The Second Amendment Foundation. GOA is good I guess

NAGR is a scam and should be avoided. National Association for Gun Rights

Kind of like them contracting with someone else to sell crap on their website. I ordered a scope from them last year, when it got here it was poorly packaged and rattling around loose in a too-large box, and also happened to be an AIM Sports scope. This was NOT disclosed nor advertised on their store. I found the same item for sale many other places online much cheaper once I knew what it was. I sent it back and got a refund, bought something else.

Kinda turned me off to them even more, even though I was already somewhat irritated by their junk mail and solicitation, then to see them selling cheap junk stuff, not even bothering to rebadge it, but not disclosing it was from a manufacturer they knew well many of their members or prospective customers would probably pass on - otherwise why hide the brand?

Stupid business model, if you ask me - harass and annoy people you're trying to entice to join you, sell cheap flea-market junk at a marked up price and then package it poorly so it can be damaged in transit, contract with another company to handle your affairs - essentially just selling your name for a buck, not actually providing a good service or product.

All of these things have soured me on the NRA.
