not being tough, just seen people get on the oxy train and miss their stop. :crying:

Some people can drink one margarita and be fine while others think they need to drink the whole bottle of tequila. If you're not a whole bottle kind of guy, you should be fine using as prescribed.

Had the nerve block as well with my shoulder surgery. It was wearing off before I could leave the hospital, as far as at the surgery site. The rest of my arm was a derp though. Could raise my hand up and smack myself in the face. After a couple days I was cutting down to half dose pain meds. In fact I kept track of what I was taking by writing it down and probably have the logs here somewhere. Only way I could sleep for the first week or so was sitting up in a recliner but luckily I was given something to help me sleep.

As far as the itching, it sucks.... My face itches when I drink alcohol as well. Worst itch in my life however was a reaction to an antibiotic. I was red from head to toe and EVERY SQUARE INCH of my body itched... Between my toes, face, ears, arms, legs, torso, even my Johnson. After that even poison ivy isn't that awful bad, it quits after you scratch it a bit.

And just found my logs, not going to scan it since I can barely read the chicken scratch, LOL. Had surgery on the 14th of January and the logs start on the 17th. Can't remember if I was cutting down before then but was already cutting down to halves during the day and the 18th I was running mostly quarters during the day. Knew better than to cut back too far as I have done that before. Better to creep down to the point where you are having a rough time than to just jump over the line.

I will say this though, when the pain does get rough a NSAID will help to get it under control. Take a tylenol or ibuprophen as well when you are cutting back and it will help things work better. And remember that if you do something stupid like wrench your shoulder doing something take an NSAID right away. It will slow the pain hit a lot and allow you to stick to your current dose of narcotic or only need to bump it up a little/take it a little sooner.

For me two weeks and I was off the narcotics completely. The doctor was dumbfounded as most end up needing a refill at least once if not twice after the surgery.

Many surgeries specifically say NO NSAID's, both of my shoulder surgeries did, so be very careful with that recommendation. They want the inflammation for healing, so no anti-inflammatory.

Speaking of being smarter than a Dr. if ya wanna call it that, I've started taking 25 mg CBD oil and I'm pretty impressed with the inflammation that has left me. Knees, back, shoulder...

CBD also helps with insomnia!!! Thank you mother nature!!

I've been given drugs post-surgery or dental work and never take them, I guess I have high tolerance to pain But one thing I do know is to research your medical condition on the internet to familiarize yourself with what is happening to you body and maybe the options you might have. Too many Doc's are good for a signature and medication and sometimes the medication isn't the course to go. Also research the MD ratings, they aren't always correct but they'll give you a good idea on who to go see for particular problem. I worked in Ophthalmology and there were genuine problems that could be corrected but somehow a general MD medicates and medicates which will ultimately harm the old body-liver failure if one isn't careful with some drugs.
