Oklahoma Schools have 181 Days of school a year teacher report 3-5 days before school starts and 1 day after.

-First of all it’s 187 Days.
-Second. It’s spread out over 10.5 months
-Third. If you knew a teacher you would understand that we spend a large portion of our weekends, and after school time Planning for our classes and lessons.
-fourth. If you knew a teacher you would also understand that we spend a large portion of own income buying supplies out our own pockets so we can educate our students. Districts don’t have the money, and won’t reimburse us.
-fifth. If you knew a teacher you also know that districts don’t have money to supply paper after a point so we have to go out and buy reams of it to make copies with.
Sixth- We are forced to give up planning hours to watch classes because districts can’t afford subs.
Last- I haven’t even mentioned the time away from Home sponsoring classes, dances, fund raisers, community projects that we give up.

It’s not an easy job. It’s a very rewarding job. But, it takes a lot out you.

Not trying to start anything. Just FYI.

Oklahoma Schools have 181 Days of school a year, teacher report 3-5 days before school starts and 1 day after.

They Work 37 Weeks a year. With 17 Weeks Vacation.

A seven hour day including a 1/2 hour lunch and 1 hour planning break
That makes for a 5 1/2 hour work day.
This aint gonna go well for you...lol

Find me one teacher that works these stated minimum hours. Just one.

Here, but occasionally There.
Just for grins--and without looking it up--does anybody know what fraction of our state budget is spent on education? I looked up the numbers yesterday and was stunned. I'll post the budget here in a little bit, but I'd like to see what people think we're spending.

I don't know what it is now, but back in the '80's when I was a school board member, I think it was in the range from 60% to 70%, likely about midway between those two figures.
