Funny story I keep some spent shotty shells in my safe and on occasion when the boys ask for their shotty’s to go duck hunting I will slide one in the chamber before I bring them out of the safe. And after i hand them over if I don’t hear a “what the hell” within a minute or so I start chewing ass ......lol..... my 1st personal rule has always been to clear every weapon that’s handed to you period!
I like that test. I'm a fanatic about making sure a weapon is unloaded upon taking possession unless I'm told it is loaded.

Update:
So I went to the range, (friends property), with a cousin (who is also a neighbor to the property & he helps keep things clean out there) to shoot my new AR pistol, & guess who shows up just as we were getting ready to enter thru the gate, the object of the topic MS.
We chatted for a couple minutes & then I just said we should go on in to the range.
I had a 4 guns with me, my cousin had 2, & MS brought his Canik TP9sfx.
I told myself to be extra aware of his demeanor & actions, so I took extra care in paying attention to how he treated his firearm & the others, how &/or when his muzzle was facing when others were around.
And I was pleasantly surprised, he definitely has much more respect & care for firearms than he did about 4 to 5 years ago.
& without going into too much more detail,
I think he is going to be alright. Just going to keep coaching as time goes on.

Well, they say your brain doesn't fully develope until you're 25.

Personally, I don't think people change. It's a rare person that does.
