I just heard one of my dogs barking at something behind my storm shelter and found him nose to nose with this guy.

Absolutely beautiful day!
Started about 10am working in the shop with a light jacket getting to a Tshirt around noon.
Built a fish feeder for the pond so we can raise our own fish during the great food crisis coming by the Debbie downer crowd.
Actually, had three ponds cleaned out while dry for cattle. One will not have cows on it so it's been stocked with bass, perch and catfish we caught in a couple days of fishing. One bass will go 4.5 lbs.
Threw in 3lb of minnows to keep them fed up until this feeder gets set up and running.
I absolutely love shop days with the cooler weather. I like to build things with welding, on the lathes or whatever needs done.
Tomorrow's project will be to build some new wheels for an ice chest that got broken on rough ground out of some kind of wood. Maybe even cooper some iron bands around them.
The danged ice chest only cost about $25 bucks and I'll have that in time and materials but just love tinkering with that stuff. One of a kind.

Currently vacationing in beautiful South Dakota. We are in a Hill City, SD hotel and got lucky as all get out. The trip was a quick decision type of thing and the wife booked the hotel for us to check out on Sunday morning. It just so happens that the hotel will be closing seasonally at the end of the month.

Anyway, today we went and toured Wind Cave National Park. We had hopes that we could tour both Wind Cave and Jewel Cave, but found out we needed reservations for Jewel Cave. Those were made for tomorrow morning. While waiting for our 1:00 pm tour, we drove around a park loop to see what kind of critters we could see. Did pretty good on critters for this day.





Wife insisted that I leave the door of the Expedition open as this fellow approached us.



As I was taking pictures of three other Bison behind the vehicle, I heard her say, "He's pawing at the ground pretty darn good!" So, I turned around to keep an eye on him and this is what he started doing. My first time EVER to see a Bison "wallow."







Later on in the loop drive, we saw these.



Oh, yeah...

...I did mention a cavern didn't I?







Tomorrow is Jewel Cave, and while we drove Highway 87 (also including what is called Needles Highway) today, I hope to drive it again tomorrow when it is supposed to be more sunny. We will check out Mount Rushmore after the cave tour, and then see about driving Needles Highway, seeing some of Custer State Park, and driving back up on the Iron Mountain Road (also known as part of Highway 16A.)

Good morning like minded folks,

Made it back up to the lake house late last night. Have a neighbor that needs his skirting on his trailer removed and replaced with metal. Too many critters getting underneath and starting to tear up his insulation. Guess what I will be doing this weekend???? Yep, I’m the one they call.
Oh well, what are neighbors for? It’s the least thing I can do since all of our neighbors up here watch over my place when I’m gone.

A little update on the local 2nd grade girl: from what little I have heard, sounds like she's doing better, but they did diagnose here as having E Coli I guess...never personally known anyone that had it, hoping the Dr's knowing that makes it easier to get her better, quicker.

Another beautiful morning!

I want to ask for some of the OSA prayers, good thoughts, good vibes, or whatever you may feel like doing. We have a young man in our family circle, that is a veteran of 82nd Airborne in Bosnia, and a SWAT team leader with the Phoenix PD. Earlier this summer, his department offered free full body scans for members and their families. The scan revealed a rare tumor on his spine. Slow growing, but in a very delicate, and potentially crippling, position. There are two surgeons in the country with experience in this surgery, NYC and Chicago. He flew to both locations for scans and interviews, and selected the Chicago option. Both docs told him that he would have most of his movements after surgery, but he would no longer be able to run or walk long distances due to nerve functions in his feet and ankles. His career is virtually over. His chain of command is very supportive and he will continue with the SWAT dept in an admin/training function, but in his words yesterday, “It sucks being totally fine and coming back messed up, but I will bounce back. If I’m anything, I’m durable!”

He leaves today for Chicago for all the pre-op stuff, and then his wife will join him Tuesday for a ten hour surgery.

Prayers for good outcome and quick recovery

Well wishes for everyone who needs them. This life will throw something at every single one of us every now and then. And in the end none of us will get out alive -- but some trials and tribulations I will never understand why need be.

In better news, my gardens -- front and back are cleaned out and ready for a cover crop ... I know but the nice weather had me tricked. Plus I was waiting on some rain so I wouldn't be tossing clover seed down on dirt as dry as the Sahara.

Almost bought a half dozen chicks at Atwoods ... MUST. BE. STRONG. But -- they were RIReds, and had their wing feathers ... AND were half-priced for a quick sale. Had 5 or 6 ducklings that were good sized too.

I might have to go see if they are still there tomorrow. As for tonight -- tonight I work! Lol Our old alcoholic biker dude cashier quit last night. I liked him except when he was a grumpy ******* -- which was becoming more and more of the time. I kinda feel bad for him -- he is his own worst enemy. Oh well ... I can't take in ALL the strays ... There are a BUNCH of old grey-haired widow women who are gonna be disappointed, though. He was an incorrigible flirt -- and they LOVED it! It was kinda cute to watch in action ... Ain't no way he could do half of the **** he would tell them he would do "just for them" ... It was hysterical when he managed to get a couple, three of them all in his line at the same time. Damn -- them old widow ladies can spar like tomcats on a fence ... Haha!

His optimism to his future is incredible. Apparently, he has decided to move forward with it vs giving up like some do.
