Actually I do agree about that, but for what they are spending on hotels and "new homes" hire a staff with some home repair experience and building supplies and rehab blighted properties. There are several abandoned apartments in OKC that would be perfect for that. but again, like I said I am a bit of an idealist and dreamer.

I spoke with an OCPD Capt. last week at a meeting. He said places like San Fran, Portland and Sea-Tac are handing out bus tickets to Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, saying we are really generous and have lots of services for the homeless. He also said if you own a business and dont want them setting up a camp, you have to make them uncomfortable early. Dont let them hang out for a few hours to charge their phones, dont let them use the restrooms, dont let them spend the night, trespass them immediately and if they dont leave, call the cops. Word spreads quick in the homeless community of who is friendly to them and who isnt.

They all do it, including Oklahoma. Norman drops theirs off on 240. I live south of the airport, and Newcastle/Lighthorse drop theirs off at the Oncue at 119th and 44. Here they usually ship them to Houston, Austin, etc. Cheap but far enough they don't make it back anytime soon, rinse and repeat. Was the Captain of the Outreach Team, or just a random Captain? I'd know them either way, but can confirm, from what I've heard or seen.

You're right about that, lol.

And "even if they had cellphones/addresses/paperwork" - I bet you can't run fast enough to chase most of them down to give them a job.

I've worked around these urban campers for way too long to feel much sympathy for them. They cut our fence, break windows, steal stuff...just screw all that.

Make them go to work or lock them up somewhere that will cure it.. i can't possibly cary any more people.

They do, but like I posted up earlier, the no drug policy is a deal breaker for most. Some of the churches take advantage of them though. The church that drops them off requires them to raise $200 dollars before they'll get a ride back and a place to sleep. Anything over that they get to keep. Like I mentioned earlier, out of all the homeless in Norman, only 3 didnt have help and wanted it.

If this problem is ever to be solved we need to play the long game because there isn’t any quick fix. The solution would depend on the circumstances that caused the person to be homeless in the first place. I can tell you this, just driving them away isn’t going to do anything to solve the problem and to think it will is very shortsighted. In So Cal right next to the Angel Stadium there was a huge homeless encampment and the city of Anaheim had enough and drove them all out of the area which only kicked the can down the road for someone else to deal with. I believe this article states in the cleanup they found 4600 needles and over 315 tons of refuse. I know for a fact this created multiple smaller encampments in neighboring cities and the increase of Anaheim home invasions skyrocketed so be careful what you wish for. Makes me wonder how many people here have taken the time THEMSELVES to go down and speak with any homeless people because of you haven’t you’re passing judgment out of ignorance. Kind of like the liberal left screaming for harsher gun control when they know nothing about guns.
I think programs need to be multifaceted to deal with each individual person’s needs that solution also needs to be accompanied with some form of labor for those that are able. The Apostle Paul said “Lest a man work neither shall he eat” so free handouts for able bodied people isn’t a good answer. I know I’ve thrown a lot out there and to sum things up whatever is implemented should be focused on instilling these folks with a little pride and dignity.
