I'd be way less annoyed by an attentive lane splitter in gear than a ponytailed garbage barge rider blipping the throttle under every overpass or a flatbiller doucheteen on a street bike with flip flops and gym shorts and his 12 year old girlfriend on the back. There is much more douchey biker behavior than lane splitting. Ever been to Eureka Springs? Smoky Mts? Lol.

Watching for smaller bikes/cycles sharing the road with the same laws/rules is fine......having to yield to someone driving dangerously are two different things.

Bikes get their own lane in some cities. Just like lane splitting is allowed some places. Not the same rules everywhere.

If bikes had to use the main lane and ride single file with cars, you would not have to check your mirrors when making a right turn. Right turn across a bike lane? You could easily turn right in front of some hipster spinning his fixie flat out on the way to get a macchiato. MacBook cracked on the asphalt, man bun all tangled and bloody. What a scene it would be.

I'm well aware of bike lanes lol.... respecting the bike lane isn't even in the same ballpark. The point remains that within those respective cities and here the rules apply to everyone using the road. Lane splitting is only legal in California and comes with a laundry list of restrictions. It's STILL dangerous and stupid in 99% of cases.

As a motorist I am usually in the same lane for long periods in heavy traffic. I fail to see how this poses a threat to me. Unless the biker is traveling at high speed, which I already said should be illegal.

Who constantly switches lanes in traffic anyways?

To RidgeHunter, My oldest son did the Durango to Silverton Colorado race for 11 yrs. He placed 4th one time. Both my daughter in laws and all my grandchildren ride bikes too. One of the women has competed in the Silverton race multiple times too. Biking is very strong in my family. Hey I chew gum and walk quite well too. lol Oh and I taught Dr. Ed in summers for 10+ yrs to earn extra money while coaching. That said you will need to dig deeper and get much more dirty in order to touch me with such ridiculous insinuations!!!!!!!!!

If a frog had wings he wouldn't drag his a**!! lol We live in Oklahoma so grit your teeth and bear with it. Move to California if you don't like it.

It doesn't bother me at all if others lane split...some of my riding buddies do. But I've learned over the years to minimize the risks I can, and that is one you can minimize.
