Full service gas stations were the norm until the oil embargo following the 73 war.
Then gas became scarce, expensive, and they took off the little lever on the gas pump handle that filled the tank full.
All of a sudden people pumped their own gas and cleaned their own windshields and a million jobs went poof, just like that!
Holy schit! Thats where I went to Highschool in 84I was working for Putnam City Campus Police Dept in 1977 and the starting pay was $481 per month.

Somewhere I have an old menu from either the Wide-Awake or the Around The Corner cafe here in Edmond. I can not remember the year but I think it was 1950s. The prices were amazingly low compared to what we pay today. If I remember correctly a T-bone with all the fixins was around $1.
