I wish they would make the engine something worth looking at again. At least the C8 Corvette makes an attempt to show it off but that’s rare. Many of the “engine beautification” packages for engines are billet caps and painted plastic. I miss chrome and styled reservoirs.
That plastic fuel line stuff is nothing new.
Gm was using it 25+ years ago and I fixed (cussed) some cars that had it.
The quality of the plastics/rubber/silicone/teflon parts are what make or break the project.
The plastic and rubber on my 29 year old Toyota are in perfect shape. 377,000 miles and only 2 fails.
Upper radiator hose and PCV hose.
40 year old plug wires on an old Datsun Z car were in perfect condition after as many miles.
Not a fault of the "plastic" but the chemical makeup of the plastic.
Manufacturers know how to make a fail point.
Plastics in cooling systems kill me.
I have fixed many of those like the above with Brass like this one.

They don't build them to last more than 5 years, the idea is to keep you making payments by trading or bringing it in to the dealership to get worked on. That's anything mechanical from tractors to appliances.
Buddy just called me and that plastic crap in the radiator hoses failed him on his 2017 Ford 3/4 ton diesel truck 112,000 miles.
That is just ridiculous.
If I paid that much for a vehicle and it failed a simple part I would want to rip the heart and throat out of the SOB that designed it.

I got to choose what went where and some friends poo pooed me for not going back original on things.
