Grumman has been making aluminum body walk-in vans since the 50's. Better known as "bread trucks", they are long life vehicles that typically last about 25 years. These vans are used in the bread, uniform rental and overnight/parcel delivery industry. In the mid-80's when I worked for the German diesel engine manufacuturer Deutz (air-cooled diesel engines) we developed repower kits for the Grumman, Utilimaster and Olsen walk-in vans. Most of those mfr's used Ford's stripped-chassis (drivetrain/frame/steering system) to build the vans. For cab heat we used Webasto diesel-fired heaters. Our biggest delivery customer was Fed-Ex.
