I'm guessing most of you calling the brace ghey have never seen or used one in person?
Bought a pistol that already had one on it and even though I planned on selling off parts and turning it into a rifle, still took it to the range to try it out. Pistol handled well using as designed/intended and it worked like you'd expect from the shoulder. I parted out some of the pistol (brace, barrel, etc), swapped in some rifle parts, and walked away with a free Aimpoint H1, $20, and an appreciation for people's abilities to get over on the antiquated rule the ATF enforces.
I have. Im just busting the owners balls. I mean, if you are short enough that this device works well as a stock, then go for it...
...You saved $50 and some wait time. Having said that, If it is the owners way of sticking it to the NFA, then I am all for it.
Agreed, esp bold part. Their money, their choice... or were they born that way... I get confused with the whole gay vs ghey thing.
Also, eForm1 times are down to roughly 30-31 days, just sayin'.
You also have to take into account the cost if the stock you'll be using {snip}
Speaking of apples to oranges... if you wanted to skew the results more in favor of the Sig Brace, you could always replace the CTR in your example with a PRS and you be looking at $500+ savings.
Let me try and we'll do it pretty bare bones...
Modifying:
$200 tax stamp + existing stock + existing buffer kit = $200
Vs
$150 Sig Brace + existing pistol tube = $150
Savings: $50
Build:
$200 tax stamp + $30* Magpul Fixed Carbine stock (my preference) + $40* mil spec buffer kit = $270
*prices from DSG Arms
$150 Sig Brace + $60-90 (depending on length and source) = $210-240
Savings: $30-60 depending on which length of pistol buffer you go with and a little bit more can be saved if you shop around for the brace but the SBR crowd can also save by using a basic stock on the SBR sourced from a store, a take off picked up on OSA, or even the DSG MOE Stock kit, with a savings of $10-30 depending on how generous the OSA member was.
I was doubtful about the brace until a friend of mine got one. I was very surprised at how well it shouldered. If I didn't already have an SBR, it would be a strong contender on a future build. I don't run my stock fully collapsed though so I'd have to buy that other pistol tube that extends the mounting of the brace an inch or two.
Yep, expected to hate it and a bit self loathing that I didn't. Would consider it if I didn't have a SBR already with a caveat. I am interested in getting more involved in classes and events and intend for my rifle to be put through the wringer so I am glad the fixed carbine stock is perfect for me as I see the adjustment lever and parts of CTR, MOE, iMod, etc. as a possible/probable point of failure. Following the same line of thought, I am not sure how resilient the Sig Brace will be for much more than a range, truck, or HD gun.
Lastly...
Gay, straight, black, white, SBR, pistol with brace? I'm just glad you MF'ers get out shooting and are enjoying as much of our constitutional rights as you can. And if you can't take a joke then f*ck ya.
