Time for a crew cut instead of a mullet?

Or just a cut period. I know Gundy made OSU competitive for a few years, but sticking with him means OSU is ok with mediocrity. Stoops lasted as long as he did simply because he got one natty and several conference championships plus 3 other title game appearances. If OSU wants to be on the national radar and get those good recruits they need to think about a coaching change.

Bob Stoops was a much better coach than a lot of people in Oklahoma gave him credit for. He was actually a great college football coach and learned from one of the SEC greats in Steve Spurrier at Florida.
His major sin was getting rid of Brent Venables to make room for his brother Mike. No one is perfect in coaching or life in general.

After last Saturday's Iron Bowl it looks like Nick Saban may have lost some of his mojo.

Oh I won't argue Bob wasn't a good coach, but he did favor his coordinators even when they didn't perform. I agree he never should have brought Mike back and instead focused on D recruiting along with better position coaches. After watching OU decline in the 90's I would still take Bob as a coach and at least have winning seasons. But you know Stoops was under the gun the last few years for not getting back to the natty or winning one.

Venables wasn't nearly as successful at OU as he has been since, for whatever reason, and a lot of people wanted to see him gone (not necessarily replaced by Mike though). Weekly "Fire Venables" threads on the OU message boards.

His defensive schemes were sound, just poorly executed by the players. Players were constantly out of position, poor open field tackles, etc.

All of those deficiencies are poor coaching, if they aren't corrected. If Venables gets no blame for players out of position and can't tackle, why does Grinch get credit if they get better?

I'm not saying Venables was a bad coach, I'm sure he didn't suddenly learn to coach when he went to Clemson. I'm just saying that if letting him leave was a mistake on Bob's part, there were tons of Sooner fans who agreed with it at the time. For whatever reason, it wasn't working here.
