Google maps uses Waze data for it's traffic overlay..
Thanks for that info. Google maps traffic has been very helpful to me.
Cell phone use (except hands free voice operation) while driving is totally banned here, with up to $500 fine. Did people stop using their phones? NOPE! They just hold them lower, making them even harder to use while driving.

Thanks for the info. I'm sticking with Google maps

It's Austin, dude. It's not like anyone is doing over 7mph on the highway anyways.

Don't remind me.. It's like there's a running contest to see how close to 5 MPH under the speed limit everyone can drive. I drive 5 MPH over usually, and sometimes I catch myself looking down half nervous because it feels like I'm going WAAAY over.

Yeah, but they have different features, and gMaps doesn't show all the things (data) that Waze shows (e.g., police, pot-holes, hazards, etc.). Waze pays off in ways the gMaps can't.

Fair enough. I don't know really anything about the Waze app since I've never used it. I just knew that google owned Waze and have many times seen traffic alert icons on google maps overlay that showed it was reported by Waze.

When I get in my vehicle and need directions, I put them in google maps and never pick up my phone until arriving at the destination. I feed it to the stereo via Bluetooth. Listen to the blues and get directions.
The "need" for instant gratification is ridiculous. Before Waze, did you hold a map in front of you all the way to your destination? Your passenger did, or you pulled over to see where you needed to turn.
I don't text on the road, nor touch my phone. If I need to see a pothole, I make sure I'm far enough behind the vehicle in front to do a visual observation before hitting it. Waze just gives a general location.
Don't speed if your don't want a ticket.
If grandpa died, there is not one thing I can do about it by reading/typing texts while driving in traffic. I'll need to stop and get gas at some time, or my passenger can read the text.
I'm betting there is a large part of the population that can't read a map, nor has even seen one. I'm a technology lover keeping up with the latest, but also a person that says some of the technology has a place and time to be used.
Driving is not one of them. Too many innocent people die because of it. If the texter was the only person hurt/killed/paralyzed, I'd say go for it, but its the innocent that end up paying the price for the instant gratification of others.

You can use Waze the same way...feed the directions through bluetooth, stereo, etc. and never touch/look at the phone.

He said it again!

I've always been able to update them, in lots of gas stations from Austin to Oklahoma City, and elsewhere. Is there a particular station you're having trouble with?
https://support.google.com/waze/answer/6262589?hl=en

I've had trouble on several trips with several ConocoPhillips stations. The last time I tried would have been in August 2015 on a trip from here to Bristol, TN. Most stations gave me no trouble, but several ConocoPhillips stations that appeared to be small chains did, and when we returned the stations for a local small chain (Fast Lane) also did. I don't recall the exact message I was getting, but it basically said that the pricing was provided directly from a partner and wasn't editable. I tweeted about that and a UI issue, and the response for the gas station issue was pretty much "sorry to hear" while the UI issue gave instructions and promised a later fix (which was delivered). My issue with the pricing was it would say that it was updated by their partner X hours/minutes ago (usually around an hour or less), and the price in Waze was significantly below the other stations in the immediate vicinity while the price at the pump was at or above the other stations. Since that experience, I don't trust the gas prices presented in Waze.
