I might be mistaken, but I was also under the impression your carry gun while hunting during the general firearms season must meet the requirement for deer hunting.

Thats not true. Any gun used for CC is legal. You just can't shoot a deer with it unless it meets the legal requirements for deer

I've killed deer with a lot of different calibers, but my absolute favorite is .280 Remington.

I like .243 for the greyhound sized deer around here. My 25WSSM usually goes with me because it is light. Sadly, I don't deer hunt much (basically at all) anymore. Can't go wrong with 30-06 if you can handle the recoil.

7x57 mauser. Probably going to a 7mag or '06 this year beacuse I have longer potential shots than I really feel comfortable taking with the mauser.
