Saving as much hay for winter as I can. Not cost effective to feed year round. I figure with protein supplements and trees, maybe I can get by until the drought subsides.

I know folks that have cattle out in the panhandle and they're selling them because they can't afford to feed them all.

Sad was the first thing I thought too. They look pretty healthy now, I hope you can get them through. Have you had to thin your herd?

I have about 50 head that I needed to sell this fall regardless of weather due to age, so I will not be replacing those immediately. However, I am fighting and clawing to holding on to about 90 head that I just bought this past Jan. They are nice young cattle that would be extremely difficult to replace.

You know its bad when you have old timers saying they've never seen it this bad. For the love of god these guys are 80+ they have seen a few harsh summers.
