Most likely soot, you dislodged it.

Soot build up because of poor flow. Cause by the logs installed / stacked incorrectly.

Seems to be better. Your deed the day is done.

Yup, there was quite a bit of soot in a couple of spots on the logs. I have them arranged now where the logs allow clear flow. Hopefully that solves the problem. If not I’ll break out that happen again.
