So thats it.. you are a Stipe supporter.. should have known... explains a lot. You are defending a guy who ruined hundreds of people's lives & reputations, stole, took bribes and no telling what else...why, because.. " Stipe helped a ton of people in SE Oklahoma" and he is a dead octogenarian. Your current credibility credit limit just hit: 'OOO"! You've got no room to criticize anyone.

Or it's because some will protect their hallowed institutions regardless, kind of like Penn State.

Of all the comments you have made, this is the stupidest. Comparing Senator Stipe to Penn State. Shame on you, you jackass.

I specifically said "institutions". Many supported the sports program and school at Penn. regardless of what those involved might have done huh? I never compared Sen. Stipe to anyone, I'm comparing Penn. to the political/legal industry in OK.

People who enabled child rape to the political/legal industry in Oklahoma?

Billybob, you're too smart to be such an ass. Really, get a grip.

Never said child rape or that the specifics were the same. But when someone can get out of manslaughter while street racing drunk and only get a year of rehab, or get a law license after two stints in the Fed. pen you have to wonder

Each case is different in its own way and must stand or fall on its own merits

If an industry doesn't police itself well the actions of it's members reflects on the industry as a whole.
How does an attorney forge court docs to rip people off,(including children) and the state misses it and the Feds have to deal with it? Kind of like the DHS issues huh?

As for Sen. Stipe, will his legacy teach children that crime does pay?

The worst aspect of the state Supreme Court’s decision to allow Gene Stipe to keep his pension is that it appears crime does pay.

The court ruled Tuesday that Stipe could collect a $7,042 per month retirement that the Oklahoma Public Employees Retirement System had denied him after he was convicted in 2003 of making illegal campaign contributions.

We don’t want to disparage the good contributions Stipe may have made during 54 years of public service. Stipe, though, threw away whatever good name and reputation he had when he pleaded guilty. Now he’s facing charges again in federal court of illegal financing of a political campaign.

Many honest people work hard all their lives and end up with pensions that are much, much less than what they earned as a worker.

However, Stipe’s yearly average pay as a legislator was less than $3,300 per month, but he earns more than $7,000 monthly in retirement. Then he funnels money to a campaign illegally, he doesn’t go to prison and he gets to keep his exorbitant pension.

Of course, the Supreme Court’s ruling wasn’t based on sentiment, but the administrative policy of the retirement system.

The majority of the court concluded that Stipe’s violation of federal law was unrelated to his duties as a state senator and therefore, not a violation of his oath of office, the grounds for forfeiture.

One justice, James Winchester, did dissent. Winchester wrote that as a senator, Stipe vowed to uphold the state and federal constitutions. So Winchester concluded any illegal actions to subvert the election process is a violation of his oath of office.

Most people will see it that way, too, even if most of the state Supreme Court doesn’t.

You play that same one note over and over.

My profession does police itself. I have personally been involved in shutting down dishonest lawyers.

Just because once upon a time you had an experience you didnt like in a domestic case doesn't mean every lawyer and every judge is corrupt, no matter how you like to beat that drum.
