Never have been and I'm thinking about going to the Tinker PX and Commissary one day next week just for the heck of it to look around.

I'm a honorably discharged Army VN vet with 3 yrs. of active service, carry a copy of my DD214 in my wallet along with my VA card and I've got one of those new Real ID's......mama is Asian and has been a naturalized U.S. citizen since 1977 and also has a Real ID.

Will we be able to get on base and go to the PX and Commissary with what we have for identification ?

From my understanding, your wife can get an ID as well. Not a VA ID but an ID to get on base. I believe it is separate from the Pass & ID/Visitor Center. The Pass & ID can get you access to the base with your VA ID card. Like you, I need to do this process myself for my spouse.

If you’re a MoH recipient or 100% disabled, you can get a base privilege and access card. If you have a Veterans Health Identification Card that says service connected, POW, or Purple Heart you can get on base to use the PX and Commissary.

If you don’t meet that criteria, you might still get on base, I dunno. The MPs arent great at being thorough sometimes.

I believe you need to have a retiree ID card to shop on base. Just about anybody can get on base, but can't buy.
Fort Sill, but same rules.
"In the past, adults could gain entry to Fort Sill by showing any government-issued I.D. card (driver’s license, tribal membership, V.A. identification, etc.). After the attacks of 9/11, the Department of Defense (DoD) passed more restrictive rules for military bases worldwide, but the Army has been operating with an exemption to that rule until recently.

The DoD guidelines require that everyone entering a military installation have a nationwide background check. With the lifting of the exemption, Fort Sill is implementing an installation access policy in accordance with Fort Sill Memo 190-13 that meets that background check requirement and will begin issuing photographic pass cards for all visitors and open a Visitors Control Center (VWC) (located just south of Bentley Gate on Sheridan Road) to manage the program. Under DoD guidelines, adults and certain children (children who are 16 years old or older and are driving a vehicle) without a current active duty military I.D. card, family I.D. or retiree I.D. must go through the VWC for a pass card that will allow them unescorted access to Fort Sill."

Not true...that changed a few years ago:

Am I eligible for commissary and exchange privileges?

In the U.S., you may be eligible for commissary and exchange privileges if you meet one of the requirements listed below.
If you’re a Veteran or service member, one of these must be true. You:
  • Have a service-connected disability rating and were honorably discharged, or
  • Are retired from military service, or
  • Are a former prisoner of war, or
  • Are a member of the Reserves, or
  • Have received a Purple Heart or the Medal of Honor
If you’re a family member, one of these must describe you. You’re the:
  • Surviving spouse of a service member (if you haven’t remarried), or
  • Primary family caregiver of an eligible Veteran (recognized under the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers), or
  • Dependent or survivor of an eligible service member, or
  • Dependent of an eligible member of the Reserves
Overseas commissary privileges vary from country to country.

In addition to the above, access to post is not the same as PX/Commissary privileges. If you're allowed base access, you can use the Shoppettes, food court/vendors, and fuel services. You don't need PX/Commissary privileges for that. Class 6 should be the same way
