I think I already know which one will be the victor, I had a discussion at work with a few gentlemen and was curious as to what the OSA community had to say in the matter. Sorry if your choice wasn't listed. Thanks!

Even though the 1911A1 will probably rate very high right along with the Colt SAA, one that is missing, and is probably the most recognized handgun in the world in the Luger.

With some regret for not choosing the 1911, the obvious choice to me is the Hi-Power. Being the first high capacity pistol and because of the linkless cam locking system that so many use today.

Great in terms of image, agreed, but as a reliable piece, it's blown away by many other German designs, not to mention the 1911. Lots of ramance attached to the Luger. CB

Very true, but without the Luger we wouldn't have the magazine release we have today. Thats one part JMB didn't come up with.

I had to go with the 1911. I have an uncle who still has his 1922 or '23 commercial model that he carried in WWII as a combat Marine in the Pacific Theater. It's all grey (no finish left), has a match grade barrel that an armorer on ship fitted for him, and extra thick grips (he's got huge hands) that were made out of a clear plastic style material. Now that's a cool gun! He tells me that he wishes that the goverment would have let him keep his Tommy gun! He is definitely Greatest Generation material!
