I'm building my first AR as well. I bought a RRA lower, RRA two stage trig and parts kit from Vital Arms. He has some good prices. I ordered a complete upper w/chrome lined barrel from RRA for $515 shipped. I'm buying the other pieces as I go but I decided not to scrimp b/c it's a gun that I will have for the rest of my life and then give it to my kids.
