a big ole bucket of dry detergent at Sams only costs $16 and does a LOT of loads. don't think I could make it for cheaper

we put it in milk jugs...we go through a bunch of that also, so have plenty. Then you can just shake it before you pour. Never have had to worry about shelf life, we make about 9 gallons at a time and give it to inlaws and my folks, etc.

we made the home made powder type detergent last year. We just got tired of making it after 6 months or so. It worked fine though.
