Its a real ford vs chevy thing

And the one that asked the question came up with the best answer...

I would choose the iPad myself because I prefer iOS, but have seen a GalaxyS Tab which was pretty neat, just sloppier OS. A coworker of mine got a Nook tablet and hacked it with Android and that was pretty cool, with not third party bloatware on it, but I still prefer the simplicity of iOS, all personal opinion and you probably won't get an answer here or anywhere that will sway you one way or the other, you just need to try a couple out in the stores and see which one fits you best...

I have the Motorola zoom, 10 months now with no problems. SDCard slot is awesome and ice cream sand which is a great OS. Oh and I suck at tech. Guerrilla glass is awesome too, no screen protectors needed. Twice the memory with. Better camera than I anything, made my choice easy. Good luck with your decision.

This.

If the Ipad came with hookers and porn-stars, you'd still have to use iTunes at some point in your day if you want to do everything with it (the iCloud is great and all, but there is just no way to avoid the cancer that is iTunes).

That fact alone makes me cringe when thinking about i-Anything.

I loved my iPhone, and I love my iPod Touch, but I HATE iTunes. It wasn't so bad for on my Mac (wasn't great either), but the Windows version never works right for me.

The ipad/iphone is for old people, kids, and people that don't understand technology well. It's as easy to use as a remote control and a retarded chimp could figure it out.

Android is for people that tech savvy, and aren't afraid to configure their operating system.

No.. android is for children who cant afford iPads...

I'll have to wait till I get to the office monday. There is a file browser app I use, it's free to educational employees but the normal license is $30. They have both a PC and OSX version. iTunes is a pain in the ass because I move from computer to computer. There is my work desktop, work macbook and my personal macbook. Since I can only Sync with one iTunes machine (in this case on my personal laptop) I use the file manager program to move stuff too and from my iPad when at work.

I've gotten to the point that I won't load iTunes without putting in on a VMWare session (which makes it semi-portable I guess).

People will often try to compare the ROOTED experience of the Android to an out of the box experience of an iPad. If we really wanted to compare apples to apples, it's best to compare the default out of the box experience for both.

iPad
  • Easier to use
  • More selection of apps, better selection of apps. Developers typically develop apps on iOS first, with android as an afterthought. A big percentage are iOS only.
  • Retina Display is soooooo good. Touch sensitivity is a bit more sensitive / responsive
  • Have to use iTunes (positive and negative)
  • Tons of apps that extend capability of iPad.
  • Expensive
  • Good to decent customer support via Geek Bar at an Apple Store
  • Can't view Flash content, but there is almost zero Flash exclusive websites on the web now. Flash is a dying technology and even MS is slowly removing support for it. All the video sites like Youtube and most news stations that post videos now have H.264 video that plays on the iPad and iPhone. New web standards are slowly making Flash deprecated. Lack of flash is no longer an issue.

Android
  • Cheaper
  • Screen resolution can be poor to good depending on model. No retina level pixel resolution for android yet that I know of.
  • Battery life can be piss poor to good, but not anywhere close to iPad.
  • Not as refined user experience. OS can vary from manufacturer
  • Higher end models will sometimes have hardware that is a little better than iPads right before a new iPad refresh.
  • Able to tinker under the hood more out of the box.
  • Can play Flash videos, but most Android devices would rather have content in WebM or H.264 and play those versions instead for video if accessible.

I'm sure I missed points on both. When you start comparing rooted Android to jailbroken iPads, they're about neck and neck. There's not a lot you CANT do with a jailbroken iPad. Same with a rooted Android. Typically, even the apps put in the Cydia store (app store for hacked / jailbroken iPhone/iPads) are of better quality than the Android counterparts and there's a wider selection of apps there. About the only advantage I can see with a rooted Android device vs a jailbroken iPad is writing custom homebrew controllers or apps that integrate via cable or hardware with arduino type boards or other devices. In those type of scenarios, it's a little faster and easier with Android.

There has been much discussion about the ease of use, the op system, flexibility, etc. These are all good points. However, what caused me to switch from an Android tablet to the iPad was simply the overwhelming number of TABLET apps on the Apple platform. I have heard unofficial figures that say iPad tablet apps outnumber the Android tablet apps eight to one. In my experience, this is very much the case. Tablet apps on Android are few and far between. In any given application area (games, readers, productivity, utility, etc) there tend to only be 2 or 3 products, as opposed to the massive number of competing products in the Apple App Store.

I loved the Android OS very much, and I prefer my Android phone over the IPhone. But in the end, Android is just ann operating system. I want to actually do things with the tablet, not just enjoy the experience. For that reason alone, Apple gets my nod for now.
