Have you ever looked into the teachings of the Mormon faith? They advocate strongly a 'prepping' mentality. As a matter of fact, a person interested in prepping could learn a lot from them in that area.

I remember reading an interview with Mel Gibson in which he said that his father taught his family that it was a sin to worry about money or what will happen in life
and I think I know where that comes from.

Matthew 6:25-26

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for
your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink;
nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not
the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither
do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly
Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

Matthew 6:28-32

And why take ye thought for raiment?
Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow;
they toil not, neither do they spin:

And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in
all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field,
which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven,
shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

Therefore take no thought, saying, :What shall we eat? or,
What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek) for your
heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

On the other hand Noah was the greatest single prepper in all of history.

My advice would be to pull what ever reinforces your own existing beliefs from the bible and go with that.

Proverbs 27:12
A prudent person foresees the danger ahead and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.

It's something that would make for a good, friendly debate among Believers. It's probably something that's okay to agree or disagree about. But, in Christianity, we have freedom and all things are permissible. If one is preparing to serve and share and give hope and feed the hungry in coming hard times, I tend to think that this is a wise use of time and gifts.

There are two schools of thought here. One says that hoarding is a sin and you should concentrate on laying up treasures in heaven and the other points to Joseph who told the Pharaoh to store up grain before the famine.

I think the important point that we often miss, is that God judges intentions, not actions.

If your prepping hobby makes you have less faith or makes you lose focus on God because you are so obsessed with fear or paranoia, he's probably not too happy about it.
If you prep because you want to maximize your capability to follow and serve even if there is a disaster, it's more likely to be approved of.
