This was the first year I had decided to pay for lawn treatment, as I had gotten tired of finding stickers all over carpet and rugs in the house. Things seemed to be going smoothly early in the year, but now I feel I'm playing whack-a-mole (maybe literally).

I'm not sure what these mounds are being formed by, as there doesn't appear to be an entrance on the top. The white pellets you see are from a recent lawn treatment. Let me know what you think it might be, and what I can do about it. I do live in city so a full-on napalm airstrike might be out of the question. I appreciate any help I can get.

Here, but occasionally There.
Likely they are caused by moles. Check with your lawn treatment company to see if their treatment also will deal with grubs. Grubs are a favored meal for moles and if you get rid of the grubs, you would likely get rid of the moles.

Heh...

....your neighbors would likely get them instead.

Ridding of grubs will help in the long run. Short term mole fix is dry ice. Dig where the mounds are, pour in dry ice, cover it back up... it'll vapor out and suffocate them moles. Its a band aid, but it works

I had lots of moles and gophers at my acreage last year. There weren't any cats in the neighborhood because the coyotes had killed all of them. I got a cat from a friend who lived on a farm and within a couple of months I had no more dirt mounds.

Those are gopher mounds not moles. Moles leave tunnels. Best thing I have found is to set traps....

I get these in my yard all the time so I agree. I just use traps and catch them every time. But it sure suck until you can catch them. They flat out ruin your yard.

Dittos to both above - I finally gave in to trapping the little varmints and it's made a big difference in the yard.
