I'm working in that direction - have thinned the herd a little and I'm down to 21 different calibers/gauges. Need to work on it some more - the firearms I have are more of an accumulation than a collection. Some of the calibers are almost duplicates - .270/.280, 6mm/.243 WSSM. Thinking in going this direction and limiting to 12 long guns:

12 gauge
.22-250
.223 x 2
6mm or .243WSSM
.308
.22 LR x 2
.30-30 x 2
.32-20
.25-20

I will stick with .38 Special, .44 Special, & .32 H&R/.32 S&W Long for pistol calibers.

I've got a few calibers that I concentrate on (I know a couple of these are oddball, but I really like 5.45 and .303):

.22
9mm
.38/.357
5.45x39
.303
.308
7.92x57

And then about 30 more that I keep maybe 100-250 rounds of on hand for guns I don't shoot much or that have a specialized purpose.

45-70
.444 Marlin
6.5
7.5x55
7.62x54
7.62x39
.223
.32
.22 hornet
.22 jet
.17hmr
.22mag
.40
.45
etc, etc, etc

Ive got a bunch of odd ball calibers that I dearly love and reload for them all. I try and keep 500 plus rounds loaded for each rifle in that caliber at all times. As I have multiple rifles in most all the calibers I've got. I seem to shoot my pet .220 swift the most so I keep a bunch more loaded for it. I've got a large cache of .308 win , 22 lr, 22 mag. and .45 acp around as well. As far as scatter guns go I keep a good assortment of loads on hand for my .410, 20ga 16ga and 12ga. Along with lots and lots of components to load more. For me reloading doesn't save me much if any money, I just shoot two or three times as much. My go to SHTF gun will proabably be a savage 24v in triple Duce over 12ga. for me I think it will do a lot of what I'll need as well as one of my 1911's. In either .45acp or 10mm. May not be the best choices but their mine and I'll live with the consequences. If forced to bug out.

we do the same, hub & I carry in the same calibers etc and just have a few different ones and then purchase ammo for that instead of having a ton of different calibars we just have a few. It makes life simpler.

I've tried to keep mine to as few as possible. I reload .380acp,9mm,.38spl/.357mag, .45acp.,223/5.56, .308 Win.,and .300 Whisper. I buy .22,.22mag..7.62 x 39mm, 7.5 Swiss, and 12ga. .

For reasons similar to your I downsized a few years ago. Went to the following:

.22 LR
9mm Luger
.38 spl
.223/5.56

I also have a smattering of 12 and 20 guage and small amounts of .22 WMR
