I stick with military rounds. Made in great quantities, and generally available. Possible exception is the .22lr, but that is a must in any collection.

12 gauge
9mm
.45 acp
7.62 x 39
5.56
30-06
.22lr
.38 spcl

With these rounds, I can kill anything in North America.

I went with

.22 for small game etc (easy to stock and cheap)
.9mm protection & carry (cheap and available)
556/.223 (little more power than .22 for food & protection)
12ga protection & food

It is easier to list what I don't have:

30-06
222 hornet
22-250 (and I really would like to get one)
all the other 9mm besides 9mm para
for some reason I have not gotten a 25acp(really want one of them too)
all the funky high power safari weatherby stuff (and don't ever really want any)
338 lapua (and will probably go there someday)
500 s&w
460 (and probably will correct that soon)
17
five-seven
8 gauge
28 gauge
will probably get rid of my 204 that I currently have

oh yeah I forgot, I don't have any of the wsm stuff, but if it comes in an ar upper platform, I will be getting it someday.

I have others, but these are the mainstays and usually try to pick up a box of one or the other on each trip to Wal-Mart.

I try and keep plenty of these in the footlocker for leisurely use, or when the local wally world runs out. I can always use more, and am running kind of puny on 12 gauge right now, but come dove season, I'll stock back up.
