This is the worst; I think it's politically motivated and not doctrinally motivated. If anything, the last 20 years and current events would require not just sniper platoons, but additional scout platoons.

Well, with Recon Battalions getting away from the elite grunt sniper schooling and making their own course and Recon Battalions holding the most snipers in the USMC, it kind of, somehow makes sense.
But I’ll agree with the above statements, a lot of nonsensical crap leadership. Ignoring all the hard learned lessons from combat. Its an idiotic cycle that just continues to repeat itself! If a war ever kicks off and they go fight, all that politically correct stuff will quickly go out of the window for those trying to not die.

The Marines have a history of doing away with specialized units. (Look @ the Raiders from WWII). Something about a consistent corps.
