The Marines have a history of doing away with specialized units. (Look @ the Raiders from WWII). Something about a consistent corps.
The Raiders were a WW2 wartime entity only. Scout Snipers have been a thing since WW2. So not really the same. MARSOC has been redesignated "Raiders" so the naming convention is back, but again, I don't really see anything "doing away" with specialized units as an organizational habit.

This is a first.

One of my former platoon commanders father was a plank owner in one of the original Raider Battalions. Me and several other Marines enjoyed his stories one evening in Oceanside over whiskey and cigars.
