I've been living in Norman the last several years, but I may be headed to Tulsa next year to attend OSU's medical school up there. Any Tulsa folk here who can recommend safe places to live near the medical school that is also relatively quiet? I suppose if it's near a noisy part of town, I'd have an excuse to invest in some high end hearing protection... err study muffs. :)

Are there also any good gyms nearby? Preferably open 24 hours. And how is the food over there? I've been spoiled by diverse, good food that's also really cheap here in Norman lol.

And of course... what are the best gun ranges and stores over there???

Thanks in advance guys!

The new 2A range on Admiral is outstanding.
Excellent training is also to be had with either TDSA or USSA, both sponsors here.
Great, inexpensive Mexican food at El Rio Verde near Utica and I-244.
As to the rest, I leave that to others, but I think these are indisputable.

If the school I'm thinking about is the one around 27th and Sheridan, the noise won't bother you as much as the crime. That area is littered with low income apartments and housing. And unfortunately for you, the further east you try and go the further you go into Little Mexico.

As for shooting. The new 2A range is only about 4 miles or so away and Sports World is only a few miles away as well. If I had to choose an area in that part of town, I would go to 41st and Yale a few miles southwest. Good luck to you... And remember to keep your vehicle doors unlocked so the thieves won't bust a window for the pocket change in your console.

Do not live in Westport on the west side of the river. There's a reason why it's a lot cheaper than the East side apartment complexes.

This is the address...
1111 W. 17th St., Tulsa, OK 74107
and the medical center is across the river. I don't think it's next to Sheridan, or at least I didn't see it on Google maps. Is that still a crime heavy neighborhood?

And huskres, my price range isn't really set right now... but I'm thinking about a place just for myself with no roommmates. $800 a month will definitely be at my upper limit, but if it's as dangerous a neighborhood as everyone's making it out to be, I obviously would pay more... and take on even more debt. :(

I would also highly recommend living in some place in a different part of town and make the drive. Traffic in Tulsa is not bad pretty much universally.

Well are you looking for a house or apartment? Im pretty familiar with that area and have never had any problems over there. On the east side of the river is where I would go. There are tons of old apartments and nice ones too surrounding downtown area. I had a friend that lived in university club and loved it. Here is a few links. These would be in a good area and close to work, entertainment, and also riverparks is awesome.
