BACK ON SUBJECT! That happening is just incompetence in the departments procedures. I know our local Sherriffs dept. long guns were in a rack behind driver or passenger seat (Deputies preference) in a 4 door pickups. Any time anyone was detained or transported to jail guns were removed and locked in toolbox in bed. This also applied no matter where the long guns were if their was no cage separating back from front.
