Passed away at age 80. His highlight films are iconic, NFL brutality of yesterday for sure. My son wears and has always worn 51 because of him.

He was from an era when real men played in the NFL. Not the elitist, social justice warriors of today. If guys like Butkus still lead the NFL, I'd probably still watch. As it is now, I wouldn't give a rat's ass if the NFL folded and all the players wound up living under bridges in a refrigerator box.

I was a huge NFL fan from about the mid 80's til the late 90s, it's just got to be a bad product for me. Politics and entertainment just don't go together for me at all.
