I may be wrong here but by reading the court's handed down decision it seems that you're going to court if it's not blatantly clear self defense. What I'm wandering is where does Castle Doctrine weigh in in relation to the state's Stand your ground? Not in reference to this specific case obviously given that they were both legal residents. New resident here doing what I can to learn.

Stand your ground is an idea derived from the principle of castle doctrine. If you are legally able to defend your person and property at your home (castle), why would that be limited to that one location? The argument is that it shouldn’t be. Defense of your person and property then applies to anywhere you have a legal right to be. If you have that right of defense, then you have no obligation to retreat and can therefore “stand your ground”.
