FWIW we haven't had the poo poo on our campus in 8 or 9 years though.
We sure the heck didn't stand in the front yard and tell everyone either.
I would think that if we had an incident we would have one now though.
Another thing also is we have the local PD's training here almost every day too.

LEOs have been used since the early 1980s. Get with it here. This is no new phenom.

The only reason im posting back to you is because you told me to "get with it" I took that as you being an ******* so I felt the need to respond I doubt we'll ever agree on this so we'll just agree to disagree.

I graduated in 1991 the only time I ever saw a cop in school is when they came in to give sniff downs with the drug dogs and that wasn't very often. Sounds like the admin failed in the school you are talking about it shouldn't take a uniformed police officer to keep kids from fighting, obviously they had little respect for the admin in that school if thats all that kept them from it.

Auto break ins.... I recommend a good security camera system. The break ins at the indoor soccer arena went way down after they added the cameras, so the argument that an officer needs to be on site to curtail or prevent them is not all that valid for me.

I can assure you Union High School was no different in the mid 1980s than any other school. Its reputation was of the highest order then and I suspect now. Fights have nothing to do with administration rather it has to do with core values instilled in students at the home in the formative years. Respect of others is at the heart of most fights. That is a failure of parents. Believe what you wish, but sounds like sour grapes towards me simply because I called attention to you being naive about this topic. Being naive is also not the responsibility of the school administrator.

The state has reduced all of the school's funding. In Stillwater, that means 1.5 million for next year. Oklahoma leads the nation in reducing the education budget, to the tune of about 21%. That is for next year. Huge amounts of money are going bye-bye for the schools, so our kids will get a lesser education. I'm not concerned about the education for my children, we teach at home in addition to what they learn in school, but the changes they are making are ridiculous. The library budget was eliminated for next year. As in zero dollars. Yet they have bought a giant factory building for a bus barn. They are moving all of the 5th graders to middle school, 7th graders and 8th graders to junior high and the 9th graders will be in the high school. 14 year olds should not be mixed in with 18 year olds. It always works out for the detriment of the freshmen. This school district has brutal bullying problems and the administration turns a blind eye to it. The superintendent would rather make easy cuts like SROs, music, library, and field trips, than work to actually make the tough choices. The district pays $75,000 a year for cell phones. It's time that they pay for their own. Switching to personal cell phones would save the money to pay for the SROs. Boom, done. Internet is costing the schools $69,000 a year! The athletic director for the district does not teach a single class. When asked why the athletic department was not taking a single hit to their budget, he responded "We pointed out areas that we could make cuts, and were told we didn't need to make any cuts". The guy OFFERS to make cuts and the admin says no, you are fine. We have a giant Texas-style high-school football stadium that is brand new, but we are gutting the actual education budgets over anything athletic. Guess what? That stadium sits empty 75% of the year. Rent it out for concerts, make money off it. I will never understand what the issue is with this town and their lack of caring for the kids. They stifle anything that is actually fun for families, catering only to themselves and to the University.

Where is all the casino funding that was earmarked for schools?

Whatever happened to the Stillwater SRO officer that bedded down with a student??? How much did that cost the taxpayers of Payne County?? Yep, you need more SRO's to protect the children!

I should have clarified this earlier but forgot. The reason this is hitting Stillwater so hard right now is that STW schools had piled up some rainy day funds through several years of surplus budget. The last 2-3 years, they have used that to soften the blows of budget cuts, but that money is running out and the latest cuts are ridiculous.

I will never understand why politicians always start cutting budgets with education. It is like smashing your hen's eggs because you afford to feed the horse.

It's hitting everybody this hard, from what I understand several districts are at the point where they are going to close a school site or 2. The SRO's are cut because they are non business essential, hiring freezes and reduction of staffing levels through attrition is on the plate for just about every district in Oklahoma, if they have had a good CFO if not then they are looking at staffing cuts, if cuts have to come they'll start in support services because again there is a teacher to student count ratio that is trying to be kept as low as possible.

Because of the nature of the issue I'll leave my personal opinions out of the discussion.
