Once some of them dry out nothing will penetrate. I used to have an aunt that gave me some little oblong fruit cake every year. It was mostly goo but if you unwrapped it and let it dry, 22LR just bounced off at 50 yards. Pretty sure a bigger one could withstand a 50cal.
