What do you keep by your bedside and why?

Cell Phone, TV Remote and some Dr. Seuss books.

Guns are all locked up because of the kids. However I do know where various other weapons are, baby gate, softball bats, 2 piece pool stick, knives, high heel shoes, ect. My wife can grab one of the guns from the safe pretty quickly if need be while my 2 dogs and I fight Chuck Norris style.
