Ya got me there... But, the Escort does not count out signals either. Still, The GPS feature looks pretty neat do you think it works well?

Actually, the Escort does count signals in expert mode. The GPS works great. I've never had it false in a location that I've locked out.

If I didn't have an Escort, I would have a Valentine.

except I got popped for 4, yes 4 over, by a Christian County Sheriff near Springfield, Missouri.

Growing up in Springfield in the '70s, we all knew to drive the limit in Christian County. Sheriff Buff Lamb was rumored to have cracked the head of more than one driver just for sporting long hair and driving a muscle car.

To this day, I still slow down to the limit when I see the Christian County sign.

have you actually taken it to court on an instant on radar speeding ticket and beat it?

If you get a pop (instant on) ticket then it'd be a rather easy fight, since the manufacturer readily admits that it isn't that accurate.

Laser yes you're pretty much marked, for the most part though, everything that I've run up against thus far has been constant Ka.

I have many of them over the years. I am sold on the Beltronics. My wife and I both have Beltronics now.

Another +1 for Beltronics. Mine has always worked great. It even picked up laser one time, and the one time it did, it was too late. I never expected to be able to avoid getting busted by laser, so I don't consider that a flaw at all.

Radar detectors are only as good as the person using them. Best thing to do after getting a new one is to drive at the limit for a few days while you learn how it reacts.

Worse mistake I've made is offering to bring along my radar detector on a long trip where I wasn't the driver. I eventually shut the thing off, because the guy would hit the brakes every time it made any noise. That's part of the reason I say to drive around with it on first. Another is so that you don't get the sudden feeling like you're untouchable and wind up getting in trouble.

And for those jumping on the subject regarding why we choose to find ways to avoid getting caught breaking speed limits. If you have any REAL statistical data that remotely suggests that speed limits can help the amount of traffic accidents, I'd love to see it. To date, everything I've seen suggests the contrary. Without the numbers, opinions like that are pure speculation.

I did a comparison with an 8500 and V1. Unfortunately (with me being the 8500 owner) the V1 picked up signals WAY before the 8500 did. Someday I will get around to selling my 8500 and picking up a V1.

Do the speed limit then you don't have to worry about buying a radar.

Well I have a passport 8500 X50 on my car and my wife have a 9500ix GPS. We love it but really doesn't matter how good is your radar, the officers out there has some other method to calculate your speed without using a radar gun, that what I was told by an OHP lives 6 doors down from my house and he's my good neighbor. I don't think he lied to me.

A stop watch and two points on the road a known distance apart is all it takes. Basic math. Velocity=Distance/Time - if the cop knows how to divide he can figure out how fast you're going.

Don't know if it'd hold up in court though because of the human variable involved.

Just obey the traffic laws, and you won't have to spend any money on one.

Yep. I stopped using a detector over 20 years ago. Haven't had a ticket since I started following the above advice.

Stopped using radar 11 years ago - no tickets since.

Flashing lights in rear view mirror are pretty self-explanatory, I don't need a radar above the mirror to beep as well to tell me I'm busted.
