If a few in a high tax bracket want to work a little less for the idea that they will save a couple % then....so what?

The idea that they will uproot, leave their homes & family, leave the USA merely because their taxes will raise a couple % is utterly and insanely preposterous and without a shred of credible evidence.

I call BULL$HIT!!! LOL!

To think that 1%'ers are more effected when they work extra only to be taxed more than people in my income bracket ($75k-$80k) is downright narcissistic and WRONG.

I would bet the extra hours I put in to increase my income is more demanding than most 1%'ers.

But you know what, good for them that have it easier that actually worked their way up. They deserve it.

I'm for dam sure not going to believe that they "feel the crunch" of a couple % raised in their bracket compared to mine.

So yeah you get taxed a little more if you earn a little more, so what? You cant get the top of line Mercedes and have to settle for the BMW instead?

You 1%'ers go whine at your wine club about it :D

Oh wait, most of the whining is not coming from the tax burdened elite, its from the other "joe the plumbers" like me worrying about those super mistreated elite.

Lets start a fund for the overly taxed rich, they're seriously hurting. :bigeye:

Why do we feel that it's fair for citizens to pay income tax at different rates?

IMHO That's a "tax" so to speak for benefitting financially from living in America.

I do not mind one bit that I pay more taxes than those with lower incomes. I also would mind paying more IF I made more.

I see it as a bit of a tactic to help level the playing field. I firmly believe if there was a flat tax, it would burden lower income more and the rich would still find a way to get out of honestly paying their share.

We don't... the IRS does. BTW, I've said this before and it's still valid - 1%'ers don't just have millions of dollars in unsecured cash or assets laying around in their name (unless they just won the lottery - but no worries, they don't stay 1%'ers for long).

If you have an ass-ton of cash or assets, you most likely hide it in a shelter of some sort for one reason... to get out of paying "your fair share". Most tax-shelters are businesses or non-profit organizations and that is why taxing the rich at a higher percentage is stupid and ignoring the loopholes that businesses utilize is just as stupid.

If I'm pulling down $1m per year (and I'm not - despite everyone telling how much they make in this thread... is that weird to anyone else?) then guess what - I'm broke in the eyes of the IRS because my company has an asset that I live in and an asset that I drive - but me, I bring in a mealy $10k per year and enjoy a private jet, etc... all on the company's dime.

Again that was an example - I don't have any of that stuff (at least not until my gangster rap career takes off - that reminds me, I need to buy a new copy of AutoTune...).

It seems more like a tax on success.

I have no problem helping those in need, I do however have a problem with any of us paying additional taxes. All classes of citizens should demand that there not be any new taxes and that the government fix their spending addiction.

Yup. I have a relative that owns an engineering consulting firm. His salary is in the 30s. His home is in 800k range, it's a business expense :D

Equal taxation means closing loopholes - something that the Republicans stand against as firmly as the Dems stand on taxing the rich.

Neither side acknowledges the loopholes because corporations who utilize those loopholes are paying lobbyists a lot of money to get lawmakers to ignore them.

Actually the GOP has already agreed to closing the loopholes and it is not the top 1% they want to raise taxes on now but the top 2%. That will probably increase to the top 5% soon since the top 2% will do nothing for the deficit or give them enough to blow. As for the rich not leaving, it is already happening because they know the increase will come.

I would not have a problem with them raising taxes, if I thought it would do a single bit of good but I know like all the times in the past they will just increase spending past whatever they raise. There will be no spending cuts. Never has been, never will be. The proposals put forth by the Dems are promising spending cuts in 10 to 20 years.
